Cupressaceae - Cypress Family
Juniper species in the Cypress Family (Cupressaceae) are known for producing berries. Both creeping juniper (Juniperus horizontalis) and common juniper (Juniperus communis) bear small, fleshy cones that are often referred to as berries. These berries are typically bluish-black and contain seeds. They are an important food source for various wildlife species in the boreal forest, including birds and small mammals. Additionally, the berries of common juniper are used in the production of juniper-flavored products, such as gin.
