Taxaceae - Yew Family
In the boreal forest, Taxaceae is notably represented by Taxus canadensis, commonly known as Canada yew. This low-growing shrub is characterized by its dark green needles and bright red berries. One significant aspect of Canada yew is its production of taxol, a compound used in cancer treatment medications. The medicinal properties of taxol derived from the leaves. Their berries are also a favorite of deer, and moose, which browse them all year long.
